BOTTLE CAPS...
Sometimes smelly, often dirty, smooshed, flattened, bent, could be rusty,
and are VERY plentiful.
Sally says "There's gotta be SOMEthing fun to create with bottle caps".
She's discovered something fun.
Check it out.
Sally has more ideas, so keep coming back !
About Sally
Bottle Caps! Sometimes smelly, often dirty,
could be rusty . . .
WHY does Sally have a passion for Bottle Caps?
She says, "Cuz they are plentiful, colorful, creatively different, and come in varying shapes & sizes. Even bottles of wine, tea, juice, or jars have some sort of metal cap that can become art. The BEST part? She is enthused to recycle something that would otherwise end up in the trash".
"Sally's Bottle Cap Art" includes peace signs, stemmed flowers, picture frames, magnets, & wine glass identifiers. She's also detailing various sculptures with bottle caps & wood-burned designs, including little rustic bird and folk houses from old wood, made by her bro-in-law, Claude.
How does one get inspired to use such an art medium?
A few years ago, Sally received a clever mobile of driftwood, beads & bottle caps, created by Susie
(aka Thelma), her husband's 1st wife.
(Yes, the 1st & 2nd wives of Tom are GOOD friends!)
Sally then felt inspired
to collect bottle caps.
The 1st project was screwing bottle caps to a wood fence, reading "TOM 4", attempting to entertain 10 year old grandson, a 4th generation Tom,
who was visiting from San Diego, with his dog Otis.
The bottle cap creativity took off from there.
Husband Tom states he's often leery to fall asleep in his chair
for fear Sally will screw a bottle cap to his forehead!!
Bottle caps adorn the 50 foot long wood fence that cascades alongside the driveway to their cabin, in the Boulder Bay area of Big Bear Lake.
The designs are mostly of flowers.
People walking by are often intrigued by the sunshine-driven sparkle.
They are surprised, when coming up the driveway to get a closer look,
to see colorful bottle caps, THOUSANDS of them!
Sally gives tours of her outdoor work studio, the ongoing projects,
& the bottle cap inventory, sorted by color into cans, bowls, cupcake tins,
& old boxes...all re-purposed containers.
Husband Tom is Sally's sous chef
when it comes to
tools, surface prep,
& structural design.
